In the environmental world, we often talk about protecting our resources and cherishing the planet. We also talk about cruelty to animals and going plant-based. But what’s often missing is the fight for justice for humans, as evidenced by the broken food system.
This crisis is bringing us back to gratitude and we’re realising its power. We need to build gratitude into our lives in a bigger way – it can do wonders for our mental health as well as making society a better place to live.
Society has bred into us the urge for instant gratification, but this crisis is reminding us that ’when you earn something, when you fight for something, when there’s blood, sweat and tears that goes into you achieving a goal and getting something out of that, there’s a sense of accomplishment and appreciation that isn’t there when you stuff yourself with consumer goods.’
So many companies thought they couldn’t survive if their staff worked from home. But the balance that we’re finding and making life more accessible for those who can’t travel easily is something we need to take forward after the crisis.
We need to stop looking at things in silos; there’s a connection between zoonotic diseases, habitat destruction for animal agriculture and public health.
Number one, the only way out of darkness is to serve those without choices or voices. When you serve others, it’s the only way to deal with sadness and hardness that comes with life.
